Purple Panda Somerset 111 dine-in

Purple Panda at Somerset 111 is a fast-dining restaurant serving a western and Japanese menu selections in the heart of orchard road. Let’s check them out with a dine-in at their restaurant at 111 Triple one Somerset.

Moreover, the restaurant sits in a hole in the wall stall in the central compound of Triple One Somerset. Notably, you might remember the building being the old Singapore Power office building and currently sits beside Orchard Central and Orchard gateway.

A Purple affair

Purple is the name of the game here. Situated in an open ground floor area in Triple one, the restaurant café setting is at most what I call cosy. Though cramped, the restaurant does offer tabled open seating can sit groups from 2 to larger groups of 10+ through a mix of tabled and booth seating in the adjacent unit of the kitchen. Also, interestingly going with the purple theme, the store is decked with plush velvety style seats and benches.

Try their Western grill and rice plates

Furthermore, Purple Panda menu offerings resolve around Western and Japanese comfort foods, such as grilled chicken, steaks and rice dons. These are what I would recommend as main staple offerings. Additionally, their menu is small but effective western selection of favourites, like chicken chop ($10.90), cutlets steaks ($13.90) and fish and chips ($12.90).

Their ribeye steaks ($22.90), cooked from frozen has a premium feel for its price, though I would recommend their cheaper chicken dishes

Additionally, you have a choice of 2 sides to go with your main course. Selections include mashed potatoes, fries and meltako salad to name afew. For a hearty meal, their baked potato is a no-brainer. It is topped with cream and parsley.

Moreover, their mushroom sauce served with your steaks are oddly white in colour. Tad like a carbonara style take of brown sauce with traces of sliced mushrooms. Also, I found their steaks to have a texture cooked from frozen, but still the kitchen does make an attempt to package the offerings one of the better tasting one, unlike the less-well presented one at White kitchen JCube we had before.

Additionally, their chicken chop is one of their better menu offerings. And paired with a side of pasta and salad. It does have a Collins vibe too it, building on a tried and tested local favourite and staple in the Singapore causal western scene even today.

Also, if you are hungry their western rice plates are a wise choice. They are loaded with all the essentials which makes a great filling meal. I recommend their chicken chop rice served with omelette and salad side.

Value Japanese rice bowls

If you desire a more Japanese or Asian offering, another menu highlight here at Purple Panda is also their Japanese rice bowls. For the offerings in the $15-17 range, I found they were really value for money. Recommendations includes their Beef done and Unagi rice bowls served over a bed of sticky rice. They are quite a joy to finish and are pretty filling despite their compact size.

Eel bowls are pricey at $16.90, but a value offering of an otherwise premium Japanese dish at Purple Panda Somerset 111

Furthermore, their eel bowls ($16.90) are one of the I recommend their dons you get generous serving of Unagi slices glazed with a hearty sweet sauce typical of the Japanese dish.

Beef cube bowl ($18.90) is quite a hearty pleasant offering, albeit quite a pricey one too

Additionally, their Beef don ($15.90) are served with flame grilled beef cubes and for under $20 a bowl. Though it is much pricier than Sukiya Gyudon rice bowls we recently visited, Purple Panda does offer better quality and is definitely one of greater value.

Wrapping up with shakes

Wrapping up, a minor offering in addition to Purple Panda food offerings is their selection of dessert drinks and bubble tea. This includes a selection of bubble team and dirty shakes. For the latter, I would recommend their milky blueberry flavour dirty shake.

Drinks selections includes fruit and brewed tea, and dirty shakes like this in milky blueberry flavour ($5.90. Its tad a rich offering

All in all, Purple Panda Café at located at Somerset 111 offers an interesting western-japanese offering on the cheap without going on the cheap. Their food quality and presentation is commendable for the price range, rivaling even more expensive offerings like Collins and Astons. This, paired with an impressive selection of dessert and bubble tea style drinks. Not bad a purple package you can say.

Verdict:

Must Go! | Actually pretty Good | Worth Trying | Shortlist Optionally | Should Avoid
