Walking into Chops Grill & Sides, the outlet is more fast food than a sit-in restaurant with free tabled seating and food ordering via a counter. Despite the high table turnovers, there are some larger tables for larger groups who desire to stay for longer. Also, you order your dishes vía the counter or quickly via the provided QR code. Your order be called out via a queue numbering system to collect from a common counter regardless of your free seating.

On some history, Chops Grill & Sides began its journey as a humble Western stall in a coffee shop at Yishun in 2015 with simple vision to serve quality Western dishes that don’t break the bank. The eatery name ‘Chops’ reflects the ethos of straightforward, no-nonsense, food. The eatery then decided to expand with their first dine-in restaurant here at GR.iD Mall on 2022. They have additional outlets at Kallang and Holland Village.

What is on the menu

Furthermore, the menu is a celebration of Western favourites, crafted with care and served with a side of value for money. For those who love a good burger, the ChopBurger Classic is a juicy delight.

Also, their menu has quite the assortment of burgers too, ranging from their trademarked Ha Cheong Burger, Crispy Fish Burger (S$6.90), and their signature ChopBurger Ultimate double burger ($10.90). Their Ha Cheong Burger marries the savoury depth of prawn paste with the succulence of chicken thighs. They are served with a homemade sambal belachan chilli that packs quite a punch.

Also, the Chopburger in the double version is the largest of their burger offerings here. Hence, if you are hungry, ChopBurger Ultimate in double portions is quite the value dish. You get a large beef burger with melted cheese and a fried egg between two toasted buns, served with a choice of one sides, fries recommended.

Their burgers are surprisingly good, with juicy and flavourful patties without being too crumbly. If you are undecided, their grilled chicken chop is a run of the mill western dish. It is hard to go wrong with this affordable dish priced at $9.90 per pop.

Try their Steaks

Moreover, you won’t be disappointed if you desire a steak, with sirloin and ribeye options to go for. Their Australian Grass-fed Ribeye Steak was a surprising offering. Priced at $16.90 per pop, their Ribeye steaks as tender and has a freshness and tenderness found on premium steaks. The meat is not your typical cooked from frozen western flaire, and are thinly cut and best had medium-well done. Served with a choice of sides and a cup of brown sauce by the side.

Also, you have a choice of mac and cheese, potato salads, mashed potatoes and leafy greens to name a few. Also, I would position their steaks somewhat on-par in terms of quality offered by Stirling steaks at Katong, but behind in serving portions and quality from iÅžteaks Bass strait premium cuts. Still you can’t ask for more for a $17 steak, which is incredible value.

The “sides” in Chops Grill & Sides

Additionally, you have a choice of two sides when you go for their Western grill mains. I find your dish best served with sides of straight-cut fries as well as mashed potatoes, though their lettuce greens is a good fiber choice for a complete hearty meal. Their fries are not overly salty, but does feel less premium to the competition, which offers more premium thick-cut fries.

You can make your dish a meal with a drink in their combo sets with a top-up. Also, you can dine at Chops Grill and sides without taking about the sides. But it’s not just about the mains; the sides hold their own in this culinary symphony. Options like the Creamy Mash, Mac ‘N’ Cheese, and Crispy Fries complement the proteins beautifully, while the Cherry Tomatoes dusted with sour plum powder add a pop of freshness and tang.

Wrapping up

Wrapping up their menu options are choices of pasta as well such as the Grilled Chicken Aglio Olio at an affordable $8.90 per plate. It is quite a bargain for western grill in the city. If you’re visiting Chops Grill & Sides as a large group, the Original XXL Platter is a feast fit for kings. For a more than average asking price $69.90, it can feed 5-6pax. The platter features an array of meats, beef, chicken, fish and a full assortment of sides that will satisfy even the most ravenous of appetites.

Also, don’t let the cardboard serving plates fool you, the food offered is actually not bad for the price at least. Their options, from the Signature Grilled Chop to the Golden Chicken Schnitzel, each dish is a nod to classic Western fare with a local twist, with great value for the quality too. I found their staple western grill dishes in the sub-$10 range is tad a throwback to the sub-$10 offerings of chicken chop. Examples includes the one we had at Collins western grill and bento many years back. This price point is much a rarity now.

That’s all folks

Not bad in today’s world of inflation or shrinkflation for that matter too. Chops Grill & Sides price point puts them on par with the quality of that of Astons steaks and salad and above the quality offerings from similarly inspired NBCB Burgers at Orchard central.

All in all, that wraps up our dine-in here at Chops Grill & Sides. If you find yourself wandering along Selegie Road, the eatery here in the arts district is one worthy for the food.
