Singapore Maker Faire and Extravaganza 2018

Following last year’s Maker Fair in the Singapore Science Center, comes the event again this time at a new spanking venue in Tampines on the 18th and 19th Aug. Singapore Maker Faire and Extravaganza 2018 is motivated by the maker movement. It sees the gathering of creators, inventors or even curious Joes alike in one melting pot. Also, the event aims to educate, motivate the public on the experience of the maker culture. It brings forward the joy of DIY, creating and inventing stuff.

Moreover, to cater for a packed event, Maker Faire this year is split into two separate events on different dates. It comprises of a Conference on 17th August, called the Maker Conference and the actual Maker Faire Singapore 2018 on the weekend of 18th and 19th August. The event is similarly organised by the Singapore Science center.

Singapore Maker Conference

The first 2018 installment is the Conference running on 17th August from 10am to 4pm at Level 3, Our Tampines Hub. The objective of the Singapore Maker Conference 2018 goes about the theme “The role of failure in Making”. It aims to share lessons and tips from eminent makers from local and overseas including David Li, the founder of Hacked Matter. Other personalities include Lit Liao from Lit Chee Labs, as well as Isabelle Desjeux of Isabelle Creates.

Furthermore, the Maker Conference programme also includes specially curated hands on workshops. Suitable for young adults, educators, makers, and anyone interested in an in depth knowledge and understanding of the maker movement.

The single day event split between a morning and afternoon session. From 10am, the morning session covers topics such as The Role of failure in Making, as well as panel discussions on motivation topics such as Fail fast, Fail forward. The planned afternoon session comprises of a mix of Sharing by industry practitioners (Maker Education). This includes highlights, such as Hands on Workshops. Here, learn how to make almost anything with digital fabrication and Smart IoT clock. Upon conference registration. Tickets to the Maker Conference includes lunch and a one day pass to Singapore Maker Faire 2018 on the August 19th.

Maker Faire Singapore exhibition

The main event of the Maker Faire is the exhibition. Moreover, here is where you find companies, schools, tertiary institutions, startups and independent makers coming together under one roof to showcase their most loved works.

Furthermore, the organizers this year has installed over 350 maker booths and workshops to date by makers in Singapore and the region. In comparison, Maker Faire Singapore in 2017 at the Science center contained over 400 booths spread across 6 zones. These zones showcase range from 3D printing, Virtual Reality, needle work crafts and robotics. This can take the form final year school projects, commercial outreach to new companies looking to put forward an idea.

As again, the event promises to be an exciting learning experience for visitors of all ages. It see the return of Singapore’s largest showcase of the maker movement. The main exhibition runs from 18th and 19th August 2018 at the Our Tampines Hub Community Auditorium on the third level from 10am to 6pm. Similarly organized by Science Center Singapore.

Lastly, Ticket prices range from $0 – $15. With a single day Adult pass at $10 (Child under 12 years at $5). Or a two day pass at $15 for adults and $8 for a child.
