Universal Studios Singapore Jurassic Park Lost World and Water World

Let go on exploring two other well-themed and action packed sectors in the park. For this part I shall touch on Universal Studios Singapore Jurassic Park Lost World and Water World performance.

The Lost World

As John hammond would exclaim- Welcome to Jurassic Park!. Without a doubt, no Universal theme park is complete without venturing into their Jurassic park franchise. The Jurassic park themed area of the park, called the “Lost world” is modeled after the second Jurassic park movie. Additionally, it is themed after the doomed tropical park from the 90s Steven Spielberg hit film Jurassic Park and loosely based-off Michael Crichton’s novel.

Welcome to Jurassic park!

Jurassic River Rapids Ride

Undoubtedly, the key attraction and ride to catch here will be the river rapids ride. Though the ride is modeled after the Florida park version, this ride here, made by Hafema is uniquely different. Notably, the traditional Jurassic boat ride clones in other Universal theme parks around the world using the typical Intamin river boat ride, which sails in one direction. In contrast, the Singapore version here uses shoot-a-river rapid styled and chute-based water ride gondolas. These gondolas are onmi-directional and are free to rotate freely as it goes down the river. Likewise, I found the Singapore water ride rather well done and unique to the other Jurassic park water rides.

Going on the ride, the Jurassic Park River Adventure has some really nice ride theming. This include an array of several animatronic dinosaurs scattered around the enclosure and even majestic waterfalls. Subsequently, the ride takes a similar dinosaur park field-trip turned disaster survival storyline.

Here, the dinosaurs had escaped from their enclosure pens, running loose in the park, with the ever looming danger of attack. The ride moves into a dark part near the end, entering a hydroelectric building. Eventually, the ride climaxes by sliding into a river splash down from the hydroelectric plant while escaping from a not-as-scary animatronic overhead T-Rex head.

Getting drenched is the name of the game here

The low entry speed of the final splashdown won’t really make you wet at all. You will rather in fact, get wet over other elements along the river. This includes getting caught in any of the river current splashes, animatronic dinosaurs squirting water at you. Also, any of the guests can choose to drench you with any of the coin-operating soaker-guns located near the end of the ride. If needed, waterproof splash ponchos are available for purchase as well as a couple of coin-operated tornado dryer units.

Bird eye view from the Canopy Flyer

Other notable rides here will include the Zamperla Dino-Soarin’ flying carousel flat ride and Jurassic canopy flyer. The Canopy flyer is a hill lift based, gravity run suspended mini coaster built by Setpoint. Moreover, the ride trains are well themed, with options for four riders on a train car to do a quick zip over the Jurassic park sector of the park forward or backwards.

Additionally, given it’s high vantage point over the park, it offers a nice bird eye’s view of this park sector in general. This includes some glimpse of an overview of the general park areas overlooking even beyond into the adjacent Ancient Egypt sector through the tree canopies.

Captive Raptor Entertainers

Also, if you are lucky you can catch entertainers roaming around here with a captive Raptor. They often make their rounds in this part of the park terrorizing and amusing park visitors at a go.

Lunch at the Discovery Food court

Food options here at the Lost world includes a combination of food courts and food kiosks. Here, the mini kiosks offers quick bites for park goers on-the-go. You can find the recommended “Dino” Turkey legs. The larger Discover food court will suit you better if you prefer an air-conditioned sit-down meal. Furthermore, the entrance of the Discovery food court is fronted by a fountain the skeletons of a T-Rex and Stegosaurus posed in battle.

Undoubtedly, the Discovery food court is modeled after the iconic Jurassic park visitor center. However, on the inside, it was quite a disappointment- it simply does not even resemble the building in the first movie with only a single floor and is surprisingly tiny.

In comparison, there isn’t much “Discovery” elements in the building at all. This is in contrast to the visitor center in Florida. It has multiple floors and sprawling with static exhibitions and interactive displays teaching about In-Gen works in genetics and how the dinosaurs were created.

Without a doubt too, food in the theme park is also expensive here. Noteworthy, a plate of chicken rice setting you back almost $12. The rear exit of the food court leads you to the lagoon broad walk giving you unobstructed views of the park lagoon with Sci-fi city on the left and Far Far Away on the right.

Miscellaneous Dino Attractions

Moreover, miscellaneous attractions here in the Jurassic region includes few non-ride elements. Also, this includes the Amber Rock Climb and Jurassic egg trail. These are fun-themed activity areas where you can explore Dinosaur eggs, explore a park or climb a rock wall.

Commendably, the attractions are very children and family friendly. Also, even the stores around the park are uniquely themed to the Jurassic park theme. Also, at night the fountain area in front of the food court depicting the battle between two Dinosaurs are well lit at night.

Waterworld live performance

One of the highlights of the park will be The Water world live stunt performance. Additionally, the show is based on the 90s Universal blockbuster movie of a world dominated only by oceans as a consequence of global warming. Here, several elements of the movie are brought back into this live action stunt performance courtesy of Universal and Oceaneering International. Moreover, this is brought to you live by a cast of about 10 stunt actors. Here, they perform a scene in a Waterworld stage complete with a central pool area large enough for boats and small water craft to maneuver.

The Cast

Moreover, gong into the works of producing the stunt show also includes additional design inputs from Universal Creative and Industrial Light and Magic. Furthermore, the show is a direct copy to one performed overseas. Also, the show includes several high speed jet ski stunts, high tension elements, as well as an appearance of a swamp boat and Gatling firearms with several spark effects.

High Stunt elements

Noteworthy, two shows are performed daily complete with pyrotechnics. It is one of the recommended attractions to catch on your visit to the park. When seated, the show starts with pre-show pre-warmers to keep audiences entertained until showtime. Here, cast members will go about getting the audiences hyped up, making cheers and getting selected volunteers wet with water. The main show starts when everyone is all seated and ready in the open air auditorium.

Be prepared to get wet!

Undeniably, getting wet is the name of the game here at the show. After all it is Waterworld! Without a doubt, sitting at the wet splash zones on the front seats could get you wet from the start to the end of the show. Moreover, it is assumed that if you sit in the wet sectors, cast members can and will make you wet! Even if it involves them squiring water guns at you right in your seat. The air boats and jet ski stunts will perform high speed cornering in the pool producing large splashes which can drenched the first few audience rows of the splash zone.

All in all, Universal Studios Singapore Jurassic Park Lost World and the Water World performance has plenty to offer. Whether it is getting drenched at the Waterworld show or the River Rapids ride, all of them seem to do a good job at getting you pretty wet.

The last part of my Universal Singapore visit comprises of my two most favorite sectors of the theme park.

Read on more to continue on to the last park sectors, namely the Ancient Egypt and Sci-Fi City regions of Universal Studios Singapore.
