Dining at Char-Grill Bar

If you are looking for good cheap western food, this is a good time to be alive. The Singapore western food scene is probably at one of the riches it had been in the years since the Botak Jones era. Char-Grill Bar started out offering really affordable premium western food right in the heartlands.

If that rings a bell that’s right up other western food establishments such as Astons and Collins. The interesting fact is that Chargrill, despite being around in Singapore for one of the longest is not really one which had an expansion as aggressive as the other two brands.

What’s on the menu?

Still, Char grill is all about serious into offering what they do best- Offering really sizable cheap western food without breaking the bank. I found their menu selections adequate for what you expect from a western food joint. Also, their stores are mostly your standard Western food store situated in coffee shops. However, the exception is their branch in Holland village offering a dine-in restaurant with a sport bar, live sports channels and beer towers to boot. The staff service is generally good and friendly. This is also consistent even at their heartland coffee shop stalls.

Right up their main courses, staples includes their char grilled chicken chop, chicken cutlet at $7.90. Here, you can have your chicken prepared in a variety of styles and sauces. Also, you can’t go wrong with this as your default option. Moreover, additional sauces variants include Hawaiian, Mexican grilled chicken, BBQ and black pepper at same price.

Char grilled chicken. You have a choice of two sides to go with your main course. In addition to entrees are a couple of steak selections as well as Giant sausages. Adding a soup to go with your main course will set you back an additional $1.50.

Moreover, if you demand more portions, you can consider their double-up char grilled chicken at $12.50 or their half spring chicken set. It is reasonably priced at $6.90. A couple of local favorite options include Spring chicken set ($10.80), and chicken.

Baked Rice

If a carbohydrate fix is what you desire, a recommendation is their assortment of baked rice dishes. You have a choice of fish, prawn or sausage baked rice. I recommend their Hawaiian chicken baked rice. In my first time ordering it, I was surprised to find encased within the cheese covered baked rice generous servings of chicken chunks.

They are nice tender and well-flavored. Moreover, these chunks are similar from those you find in their char grilled chicken, only cut down to bite-sized pieces. I found the portions tad too small for my liking though, and I usually eat it with another one of their mains.

In addition, to their baked rice are their local favorites. You have mixed of their chicken cutlet together with fried rice ($8.50). Additionally, Char grill offers a small section of 4 types of fish dishes. Prices for three of their dishes cost an affordable $7.50 for their fried fish and chips to grilled fish fillets. Their more premium char-grilled salmon costs $10.80.

Handform rock burgers

If you can’t decide what to order, a recommendation will be chicken chop (also you can’t go wrong with chicken). Also, their burger selections includes handform rock burgers, as well as American-style Mega Cajun Chicken Burger set $10.

They all come topped with melted cheese on-patty. Moreover, Fish and pork are cheaper options at $7.50. Black pepper grill lamb and pork loin chops are more pricey options at $9.80.

Ok Steaks for the price

Moreover, another sizeable offering on their menu is their Steak specialty selections. If steaks are what are after, their steaks are worth trying, they are generally good in their Holland village resturant, though it is often a hit or miss in my visits to their coffee shop branches.

Selections include Prime Black pepper steak, Super cut sirloin steak. Their menu offerings are really affordable too and are surprisingly all under $20 a plate. For instance, a plate of Prime Striplion steak will set you back $14.80. Their Prime ribeye steak and Sirloin both at 250g costs $16.80. They appear to be mostly cooked from frozen steaks and are adequate for the price offered.

Char grill’s pasta offerings are small but sufficient. There are 7 different varieties. You have choices revolving around permutations of aglio-olli, spaghettis and carbonara. Prices affordable $6.90 to $7.90. To top it up on offerings, Char grill offers 4 different varieties of salads, ranging from Caesar salad with a base ($5.00). Additional meat toppings of beef, fish or chicken sets you back $7.50.

All in all, Char Grill Bar is a pleasant addition of western food stores in the rather crowded premium western outlets. They are excellent if you want a cheap fuzz-free meal without the fat. Notably, they had been around for a long time with over 31 different branches all over Singapore.

Though the prices of their items offered is not as affordable as those as Collin’s coffee shops, it is made up for their reasonable quality is consistent across their branches with good service to boot. Their Holland village restaurant branch is one worth visiting. However, the quality at their coffee shop branches could be quite a gamble, which could actually at times, turn out to be quite a gem.
