Oakleys are in!

5
John at the wheel.. duh uh

A call came from a rather excited John (aka yohn) early this week telling me that the “remaining” oakleys we’ve ordered are in already from shipment. Finally! so as I thought. We actually intended to drop by yesterday, but Lt Jason, our “sales rep cum oakley order slave” was on leave, so it was called off. We were crazy enough to think of collecting it next week, but as all crazy people we are, its like aRgH can’t survive without oakleys! MusT get oakleys! So, the sooner the better & we decided to drop by at 6pm (today) to camp to collect it, not do I know at the last minute that yohn’s free for the afternoon, bringing the appointment forward. A trip down to camp at 1pm was planned thereafter. Yohn drove into camp in his dad’s Lexus RX300 which sadly was running out of gas too, due to yohn’s heavy foot/flooring tendencies… We got a free ATC aniversary alarm clock cum raido from cheah who was distributing them to the troopers in the ops room. Caught up with few of the troopers who were rather amazed to meet us again. Not to mention our own troopers too, a show-stopper you may say. We had “lunch” at the AHQ canteen, savoring & remembering our old days in camp eating canteen food – Unhealthy chicken cutlet rice…. yum!

Oakleys are in!

Looking at the pile back at home, this must be the biggest purchase I’ve ever got from Oakleys. With 3 pairs at-a-go (M-frame, Half-jacket, Half-wires) plus a D3 watch & extra M-frame/Half-jacket lenses, not to mention array ballistic cases as well. Though you may think that I’ve spent a fortune on these, on the contray by purchasing this through the Oakley- Military, Government & Law enforcement agency scheme, (which my whole company did) you can get the original goods at 1/2 to 1/3 the retail prices outside with full warranties, support & packaging. The only limitations are the colours offered: tactical black ones only – my favorite! So you can say that I got all these for the average price of one oakley sunglass in-shop, or how can you put it? Say…. call it 3-for-1? or like how Canadian Pizza like to put it: 2-for-1.

Day at Sentosa

0
Forward Flip!

And in a flip! it was, haha met with my class at about 9am this morning at habourfront MRT, where breakfast at Macs followed thereafter. Spent an awful 5 bucks plus there on a big breakfast not knowing about the $2 breakfast deal.. DANG! Anyway, at least I gotta the try big breakfast with maple syrup, a totally new sweet experience I say. After some planning & carefully calculation, we decided to take a cab into Sentosa, considering it being the most convenient & economical option that point of time, not to mention minus the hassle here & there. Next thing there we was straight at siloso from habourfront Mac Donalds at only an additional 30 cents per person compared to taking a bus there.

We played Frisbee, volleyball & soccer, not to mention captain’s ball in the water & the “sustain the volleyball” challenge, the record was held my Andre, Luke & Me at 123 independent continuous sustained passes of the volleyball in the water. Cool!

The outing ended with dinner at habour front hawker center & lots of sore red skin… *ouch sunburn!*

Dumb fun with kodak photo kiosk

Now its on exhitbition in da machine.. haha cheap thrills!
Fun with the Kodak photo kiosk

Well, this is so funny I guess I have to get it down here & share it with you guys. I was on my usual shopping trips around orchard when I came across this Kodak instant digital print station at the Paragon basement just outside the supermarket. & man its loaded with card readers, wireless & infra-red, it literally eats anything you feed it, except money of course, haha. So what I did, I whipped out my phone, took a dumb picture, conveniently uploaded it to the machine, enhanced it & wollia a digital art piece proudly displayed on the screen for all passer bys to see, for god knows when! The funny thing is that the machine is programmed to be “very patient” with customers, to the extent that it will keep displaying the edited image the whole day till someone comes & manually cancel the edit function, lol.

The final picture of the deed is that on the left, kinda dumb but otherwise a message to “tamper proof such kiosks”. The original uploaded picture is one here of my half- bitten yummy apple toffee I was eating along the way. Personally, I think such kiosks are getting more common around Singapore, & I guess the possibility of misuse may be quite high, not to mention a free form of public advertising & display of apple toffees!

2 lifts down in one day…

2 lifts down in 1 day!

Lift destruction. Yea, that is right 2 lifts down in one day. Thats what happened on tuesday at school. & no we weren’t pretty much the victims… Umm, how can I put it? say, maybe you can call us a class who goes around destroying lifts in campus? So how do we go about doing that? Simple, just fill the lift full (about 15-18 of us) & once the door closes, everybody start going amock! stomping, jumping & pushing against all surfaces… on all fours! That includes the door, walls, etc.. You can just feel the lift ExpandinG…

The mob was so bad on one lift, we started wrecking it even before the door closed, & we dunno how we did it, we not only managed to jam the lift & cause it to emit a soft ringing wail at the controls, but the door even came loose, was dangling at a 45 degree angle just enough for us to squeeze & make our quick escape. We almost got 3 lifts in one day on, that includes T18, T14 & almost got T15. Haha hope they don’t ban our class from taking lifts in the future!

Drowned V3 bluetooth headset

Drowned bluetooth headset

I was wondering where was my bluetooth headset the past few days. Till mum approached me today morning during breakfast saying, “Shaun I found this in the laundry, its in the pants you wore early this week” & there she passed me my V3 bluetooth headset, though still in one piece, its just as good a an extra large ear fashion accessory for my ear… DANG! Yes I tried turning it on, as expected theres no lights, no noise, just dead… plain dead.

I can’t really expect much of life though, considering that it went through like loads of water/rinsing & detergent, not to mention the fun spins in the dryer too. I guess the thing about headsets is that they are just so small (which is not a bad thing, mind you) & you tend to lose track of where & when you last left it. Especially an object so small & light can’t really be felt under the fabric of your clothing. Overall, its one of the best headsets I’ve used, small factor with good voice feedback, bluetooth v1.2, 200 hours standby & 8 hours talktime. Luckily its still under warranty & the best thing is that umm… I haven’t mailed it in yet.. heheh.

Colours of life, wall of heroes

Up for sizing...

Colours of life, wall of heroes, school’s collaboration paintings – An exhibition by Ben Phua. Thats the highlight of the night, held at the AGF Theater this evening, the exhibition showcases various paintings done by hundreds of students from various schools in Singapore. The guest of honour for the event was Mr S R Nathan & Mrs Nathan. The event kicked off with a dance performance followed by various introductions & a speech by Ben himself. An artpiece, titled “I love the world peace” was presented to the president at the end of the performances as token of appreciation. The Art gallery was opened for public viewing shortly after, together with a short reception where snacks, champagne & red wine were served free flow. A phototaking session with the Mr & Mrs Nathan, the VIPs, together with students & teachers from the various schools followed thereafter. The event ended shortly after the phototaking session where the president sent his regards before leaving the event.

You can view the event photos here.

Meet the stars!

Overall the event was a success. On a sidenote, Ben is a close cousin of mine & we grew up together together with cousin Gordon, his younger brother. Partly because his mum used to badysit me & my sis while we were in primary school when my parents are working. We were a pesky bunch back then, always messing & sewing at his works of art while Ben’s still in Secondary school. I didn’t know my Cousin Ben had been so aggressive with his art, going full time into his art passion as an artist. Whoa! he have even those customised namecards with rats on them… neat.

Blogger.SG – Yawn?

0
Yawn? I don't think so!

Thats the news on the Sunday times today, boring? It’s kinda contrasting in reference to my experience there. Well, maybe the crowded is not that big, say 200-250? but if it were any larger & I think we gonna need a bigger place… Anyway, the article hardly even covers anything from the con at all. Furthermore the blog awards are largely based on speakers from the 1st 1/2 hour of the con, nothing on kenny sia, me or miss flickr, not to mention our game of “smash the remote tanks” or even the belly dancers at the end!

The com’s program is otherwise very much known & fixed, so one can easily tell whats & whos up next or so. So theres a high possibly that the reporters left right after Mr Ramm’s introduction, where mr brown kinda like “signaled” a break or so. Then maybe its like maybe “POOF” off they go, burying themselves in spreadsheets & word processing in time for today’s article.

Sweeping? eh..

Site temporarily down

Please bear as the site undergoes major code upgrading, during this period you may experience sudden 404 errors. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

It first came up with the downloads sections temporarily going down, due to a bug in the file management script. Dumb php coding… But fret not as I am in the process of fixing it should be be up by the afternoon, so please bear with it. 😆

UPDATE: The problem had been fixed, please report any further problems by leaving a note in the shoutbox, & I will get to it asap. Thankyou!

The main lost would be that all download counters would be reset to zero though, dang!

Bloggers.SG photo update

Today saw a day at Blogger’s.SG, the first ever blog convention held in Singapore, in a club too! Overall, the con was great & I guess we have the organisers Tomorrow.sg to thank, not to mention mrbrown & this evil minions. Though the place was kinda cramped, I guess its overall better than hosting it at woodlands.. where its like ya know… woood – lands? or maybe I should have said “grasslands”, then it would give a much “broader feel” of isolation.

The con ended with some legal talks, not to mention belly dancing.. ahha..
Event space
Not to mention arrr, free flow of tea & coffee?anyone?
Dxo bar
Boys & their Toys...
Battle tanks!

I left early around 5-6pm for a family dinner & didn’t stay for the bellydancers, where I heard, was quite a hit, darn! haha

Anyway, anyway, here I have it, photos of the Bloggers.SG Convention here! (Warning: Camera Phone quality alert!)

End of school week

2
On the Bus to school...

Bus or train, its still the same. This week saw myself spending at least close to $20 on food & misc items for the week. On a ration you may say? But no, as food are one of the most afforable items in SP, say $2.50 for a bowl of chicken ban mian (home-made noodle) here is equivalent to a similar serving we can get outside for $4.50, & that is not uncommon. In fact 20 bucks is on the high side for me & I actually was hoping to strike an optimum $15 spending limit per week… I have still yet to top my ezlink card next week, darn so another 20 you say? & no I don’t use concession cards as my total monthly public transport expenditure hardly reach 60% of the concession price at all. Man I am feeling the heat of the “fare adjustments

Stingy you may say? no just doing my homework I guess…

The week say myself up against 2 tests, firstly an electronics practical which turned out rather easy in fact in the end. Think I can score an A or so. Had my class had Oral Communication lesson today & my group was up with a presentation, covering on the topic: Amphibious vehicles. Overall I think our team did a good job & it was the most interesting presentation of the 3 presented today, partly we are the only ones with videos, demonstration & such. Up next week, Mechanics class test, Autocad theory test cum practical & IDEAS presentation.

Today is supposed to be a run day for me, partly there was no Track & Field on tuesday because of rain. But just as I was up on my afternoon nap. Woke up in anticipation for my usual 10 evening rounds around Tiong Bahru Park only to be greeted by heavy rain pattering outside my window… darn. The funny thing about us athletes is that we eat so many meals a day, with so much glucose in our blood, its just uneasy not to run… Now am having that very restless feelings, quick someone chain me down…

What a Saturday!

2
Theres one for everybody!

I remember reading my horoscope last Sunday stating that “I would be working harder than usual“. True enough, I was so caught up with work, school & business, busy enough not even to be able to update for days & watch my monster garage & futurama series, not to mention missing this week’s episode of desperate housewives. I guess I its time to end this relatively busy week with a good long post.

& so weekends – family day as my parents always say… Recalling Saturday’s event, after picking mum up from her morning workshop, lunch was at the nearby Henderson coffeeshop, where I sent my spectacles to the nearby optician for repair. Got my eyesight tested & hey! no deterioration, still around 125/150 degrees. Anyway I am one who just hates wearing glasses, even when driving as I find them more of a hinderance than actually aiding your vision.

Got myself a niffy mini whiteboard earlier in the morning from Toa Payoh popular bookstore to organise, motivate myself & track my school progress, work & stuffs. Visited granny’s, then Orchard after a short rest at home. As usual Orchard was as packed as it would normally be on a Saturday. But parking was quite a breeze though. Partly because dad knew all the “secret hidden parking spots”, even got $2 per entry leh!

Initially, Sheena just wanted to drop by the Singtel Hello! shop at Orchard to check out new phones to replace her rather disfunctional nokia 7250i. & thats why we were in Orchard the first place. But as all multi-tasking people we are, mum decided to do her chores & dropped by Paragon to buy her favorite sushi & bread. While I needed to repair my video camcorder at the Sony Wisma service center. So thats like 3 over places to go then. Dad just tagged along & pays stuffs… Amazingly theres no queue at the service center, so that kinda sped things up a little. Dinner was at Taka & they were having a massive food fair in the basement atrium & man did I mention that the place was packed… To the brim literally.

Overview of the food fest

They got toffees!
& they got toffees!

Mum intially wanted to eat at the foodcourt, notorious for the obvious lack of seating. Fed up in finding a place, we ended buying food from the festival & ate dinner standing up near the central fountain, where almost everybody there’s doing the same thing too. Guess this is one of the few times where the cleaners & security will panic at the garbage & crowds around the area. Especially towards hungry Singaporeans- nothing will stand in their way! Dad just couldn’t get enough of the Sizhuan sweet & sour soup, ordering like 5-6 servings for 4 of us. Coupled together with lotus leaf gluttonous rice & “dragon bread” & cheese hotdogs as side dishes yummy. Interesting what food they have there, they even have apple toffees, called the “Apple Sitz” by them, its nice to see an American delicacy snack right here. I guess whats missing are exotic tentacle-on-a-stick snack.

Money spent, darn!

Sheena wanted a flip phone no matter what, “die die either Samsung, LG or Motorola must be flip phone one..” she said. But she didn’t expect to choose the Motorola V3 Razr in the end, partly because we all didn’t know that its going like $298 on a 2 year contract, a far cry from its launch price, close to $1000. She choose the Aluminum Black, though she liked sliver, partly because I psycho-ed her to get that colour, its just so sleek black & nice… Mmm must trade phones one day. Mum upgraded her Singtel classic plan to iOne plus as she usually recieves incoming calls – perfect for her. With that she gets a free Nokia 6610i with the upgrade. Bundled with the Moto Razr V3 is a V3 bluetooth headset going at $68, sis didn’t see a need for that. Furthermore, given the new phone she would definitely prefer to smack her 1st flip phone on her head than using a niffy bluetooth headset. Highlighting the fact that I almost spent $200 on a jabra BT800 early this year, I guess this headset will do fine too. It even have 8 hours of talktime! Furthermore it matches the colour scheme on my Dell Axim x50v too, perfect companion.

Back home, one can only sit back & admire the stuff we’ve brought for the day, man I think we overspent, but it all felt good, dinner was cheap too, guess shopping is indeed good therapy!

Saturday Morning

0
ATW contacted!

The week saw myself confirming the DVD production with Marcus, our ATW officer with microworks @ $1155. Me wonders will I get charity bonuses to cover my production prices, costing $350. But nah don’t think so, as the DVD is made for my company out of my goodwill.

I think the best they can do is pay me the $200 Marksman bonus the SAF still owe me for this year’s Range. Got up & left early today with my parents, dad dropped mum off round Shenton Way for her usual Saturday morning workshops. We made our way NTUC Income to terminate some policy my parents applied when I was 3, since its like matured, so its cash back time! 10.30am saw the business appointment with Nuraini, Mircoworks sales coordinator tying up deals & kicking start the DVD production. After a short coffeebreak @ the nearby whampoa coffeeshops, dropped by HDB hub thereafter for my home office application.

The funny thing about government applications & stuffs now is that everything is all done online. The thing I hate most is making your way down to the Hub, only to be directed to a computer to do your transactions. Hey I can do this when I am at home right? Since I am here personally, can’t they at least send a representative to tend to us personally & get things done on the spot?
