The 100 Years of Singapore Art exhibition at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) is a captivating showcase of Chinese paintings and calligraphic works by renowned Singaporean artists. Also known as the 100 Years Chinese Paintings as part of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Cultural Extravaganza 2023.
The centerpiece of the exhibition is a collection of 160 artworks sourced exclusively from Qiu Zhai Art Studio. Quizhai is Singapore based having his roots as a journalist, lover of the arts and avid collector of Chinese art. You start off in the gallery with three calligraphy pieces from the Chinese media group.

One of the notable aspects of the exhibition is the inclusion of 21 paintings and calligraphy pieces from local Chinese newspaper Lianhe Zaobao’s private collection, and generously contributed by esteemed local art masters. The exhibition features iconic works by renowned artists such as Georgette Chen, Liu Kang, and Chua Mia Tee. This is through scenery and still life pieces depicting iconic scenes of Singapore, both old and new.
Notably, Chua Mia Tee’s painting of Chess game and Boat Quay and the Singapore River captures the bustling atmosphere of cranes loading goods from boats along the river dock loading areas, transporting you to a bygone era.
Moreover, the layout of the exhibition creates an open and spacious environment, with five aisles running lengthwise in the SCCC’s multi-purpose hall. The artworks are thoughtfully arranged. Here, more prominent pieces placed along the main center aisle, drawing your attention to their artistic significance.
