Singapore Waterless Washing Machine

Posted by Shaun at 9:17 pm under Interesting Stuffs | 1660 Reads | 2 Comments

blog imageGot some time up on surfing today, & see what our peeps in the university had came up with:

A waterless washing machine that removes stains from garments in a few minutes has been developed at the National University of Singapore, the facility said on Wednesday. The appliance uses negative ions, compressed air & deodorants to clean clothes. Industrial design students Wendy Chua, 21 & Gabriel Tan, 23, said they were inspired by the technology in air purifiers, which uses negative ions to clump dirt & bacteria, making it easier for the particles to be sucked out. The ions are a natural cleaning agent.

Whee, maybe I do not even need to get my hands wet in the future!

Funny Nintendo Revolution Advert

Posted by Shaun at 12:34 am under Interesting Stuffs | 1479 Reads | 3 Comments

blog imageYea we all know that Sony’s out with their PS3 next year, answering that too will be Microsoft’s Xbox360, both spotting wireless controllers, new processors, engine & such. But I guess nothing much can offer the interactivity the Nintendo Revolution offers. In place of the all standard game controller is a rather unique “TV remote” styled controller where on-screen-controls are as easy as ‘point & click’ – YES point to the screen & SELECT, all no hassles, no wires. I can just imagine the possibilities this format offers, having the ablity to pick objects in RPGs, swinging your controller as a racket/sword in a tennis game/samurai game, using it as a steering wheel in racing games, not to mention having an edge & doing away with the hassle of D-pads in first person shooters. Whats more, its expandable & can be mated with a conventional D-pad base for conventional gaming style. You can read a more detailed story & application of this rather interesting gyro controller on IGN.com here.

To have a feel of the interactivity involved, check out some snapshots I’ve taken from a Japanese advertisment Nintendo is currently offering as a trailer on Japanese airwaves, comically funny!

Alternatively, you can download the video here Sorry on the broken direct video link, the site does not support hotlinking, please visit videogames.3yen.com to download it direct from their page (Thanks GamerZ!)

Having too much time on the net…

Posted by Shaun at 10:14 pm under Interesting Stuffs | 864 Reads | Post Comment

blog imageGot back home earlier today as theres no track training for those competiting tomorrow. It’s more or less a rest day for us in prep for the X Campus run. So I went around catching up on my surfing at home & I came across this online IQ/EQ tests.

Haha as we all know, such online tests are definately an inaccurate gauge of one’s ablity. But I casually tried one anyway, & in hand I actually found some of the questions rather interesting & respectable to an commendable extent. It’s a rather short test, comprising of 20 questions, & the results are haha kinda positive in my light, scoring 77% on the “SCIENTIFIC INTUITION” part and 62% on “EMOTIONAL INTUITION”. You can give the test a try here.

The (their) explaination of the results:
The graph represents your place in Intuition 2-Space. As you can see, you scored above average on emotional intuition and well above average on scientific intuition. Your scientific intuition is stronger than your emotional intuition.

Your Emotional Intuition score is a measure of how well you understand people, especially their unspoken needs and sympathies. A high score score usually indicates social grace and persuasiveness. A low score usually means you’re good at Quake.

Your Scientific Intuition score tells you how in tune you are with the world around you; how well you understand your physical and intellectual environment. People with high scores here are apt to succeed in business and, of course, the sciences.

Oh well, so much for that!

Wish me luck on the Competitive NTU X Campus Run tomorrow!

Line to the power – 1.5Mps ADSL!

Posted by Shaun at 10:23 am under Interesting Stuffs | 793 Reads | Post Comment

blog imageSince the activation of my 1.5Mps ADSL line on wednesday, (haha yea not the fastest in the world though…) Got my free Homeportal1800HG gateway modem installed & a 40GB pocket harddisk from my ISP through the mail on Friday. Previously, I was paying like $58/mth on 512kps on like a expired contract which no longer exists (duh). The newer 1500kps plan was going like $57.50/mth (plus all the extras misc charges about $60/mth) not bad bheh? $2 more a month for 3 times the speed + $400 worth of free hardware & 3 free months of Singnet outdoor wireless surf.

For the 1st time on my home computers download speeds are actually in the few hundreds KB/s range. Gotta get used to that. Say a 100mb file normally won’t finish in 10mins previously, & when I promoted done, its like “Are you sure you are DONE?)

MMORPG to the power!
What can I got to do but discover my “new found powers” Went around downloading & tryin’ out some free MMORPG. Like PlaneShift – Crystal Blue & Fate the game. Fate the game is a very diablo II like game almost VERY identicial, only that its in 3D & all battles are in the stinky dungeon… bleach! Otherwise Planeshift is kinda neat, but the interface & controls sux big ass, not to mention the lack of players on Fragnetics. Being an avid player of Warcraft since WC II- Tides of darkness, I was very eager to try out World of Warcraft, in response to all my friends inviting me to join their little bitty various clans & such… Then when I told them that I don’t play WoW, then its like “erhhh ohhh…” Partly as I completely detest the pay-as-you-play subscription based system – just imagine how much Blizzard can make out of that? Unless if I can get sponsers… hehe

Club Imperium

Posted by Shaun at 11:29 am under Interesting Stuffs | 1060 Reads | Post Comment
As a usual saturday night on national day, its chill out time as usual, had dinner at home. Did some window shopping around orchard later in the evening, Siemens moblie is having a roadshow of their latest M55 tri-band phone, it really cool, feature wise, it suxs big time, they really have cute salesgirls there, had some nice time chatting with them bout the upcoming phone I had been drooling for *grins*, the Siemens smartphone (type SX1). Popped down for some clubbing down at Club Imperium (previously known as sparks). They are having a house, trance dance cum staurday night fever BeeGees special, not bad I say, totally grovey!. Caught a late night cab for supper at a nearby hawker center before heading home.

Random thoughts – appreciate what you have around you, cos when things start getting messy, it hits hard.
