Dell Kaby Lake product range at the Alienware launch party

Dell too, took the opportunity to announce their new range of XPS and inspirion laptops at the Alienware launch party, targeted to mid-range consumer and business users with their Latitude line. I got to try out first hand a number of new devices on display. Here are 5 products in the Dell lineup

XPS 13
The XPS line first started out as Dell’s flagship gaming series, but with the acquisition of Alienware into the Dell product line, the XPS is now targeted as a premium business laptop line. The XPS 13 prides itself as the world’s smallest 13-inch Laptop with designed and built for good looks, mobility and performance. It features a “InfinityEdge“ 13.3-inch display fitted into a 11.9-inch bezel frame giving it a near “borderless” look. This flagship is now equipped with faster Intel’s new 7th gen (Kaby lake) processors, with improved battery life Brighter display at 400 nit brightness for a great view outdoors.

Inspiron 15 5000

Inspiron 13 5000 2-in-1
The Inspiron 13 is an ultrabook packed with a very capable Intel 7th gen i5 processor, it is a conventional laptop with a reversible hinge as first seen on the Lenovo Yoga range, allowing the keyboard half to be folded almost 360 degrees backward to be used as a slate tablet. This “multidimensional” capability makes it perfect for students or uses in the field. Prices start at $1,199 with a full 13” HD screen and 8GB or RAM.

Dell had provided a refresh of their staple Inspiron laptop line, designed to deliver value for mainstream laptop users individuals and families who share a PC. The 15” model has plenty of real estate complete with a full keyboard with numpad. Options include a Blu-ray writer on top of the standard DVD drive as well as an infrared camera (for Windows Hello) and discrete graphics. All delivered in an updated thinner chassis for portability in a selection of brilliant Colors including sparkling white, black and fog gray to fit Your Style. Prices start at $749 equipped with a 7th Gen Core i3.

It is surprising that Dell introduced a line of gaming laptops which can potentially cannibalize their Alienware product range too, starting with the Inspiron 15 7000 and XPS tower.

Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming Laptop
This new and aggressively designed laptop offers gamers another option in equipping themselves for the game. It features custom designed heat exchangers venting out heat spooled by tuned dual cooling fans kicking hot air out of specially designed thermal outlets. A 74 watt-hour battery comes as standard, but you won’t be getting any 7th-gen processor refresh with this model- coupled with Intel’s 6th Gen H-series quad core mobile CPUs and GTX 960M (4GB) discrete graphics. The gaming laptop can be customized with non-touch anti-glare options in FHD, 4K UHD or IPS FHD with Truelife. Prices start at $1,899 with an i7 processor.

XPS Tower
The XPS Desktop Tower is Dell’s answer to users who demand only the best computing power, expandability and upgradability available to mainstream consumers, at the expense of portability. The XPS Tower had undergone a refresh now equipped with Intel Core processors up to i7 Quad Core and 64GB of DDR4 memory.

With the Alienware Aurora desktop firmly planted in Dell’s range of high-end performance desktops, you might be wondering where does the XPS tower range now stand in terms of the performance desktop line, it’s executive-looking black colour scheme might give a clue- delivered in a rather plain looking glossy plastic cladded mini-tower, meaning this desktop is here mainly to get work/business done and probably residing stashed inconspicuously under your desk. Its chassis also 27% smaller than the outgoing model and a far cry from the previous flamboyant and skewed metal design we all come to know the XPS desktop line for.

Dell recommends pairing this desktop with their line of 27″ monitors, particularly those from their Ultra HD 4k line. It is also nice Dell still has a sizable desktop range to offer for consumers, despite global desktop PC sales dropping year-on-year.

That is all for what I have from the event and launch party. You can expect the entire product line I’ve covered available in Singapore at end of October 2016 on Dell Singapore online, and by mid-November in retail conventional channels.
