| Category: Runs & Sports | Author: Shaun | Posted: 2:13 pm |

There we have it, the return of the Mizuno Wave Run 2008. The first few races from 2004-2005 were great, but last year’s one was really terrible. Looks like it’s deja-vu again this year as the 2008 run will take place exactly at the same venue and route. Here are some off-hand details of the Mizuno Wave Run 2008

Race Date: Sunday 27nd July 2008

Race Start Time: 0730 hrs

Race Route
Similar to last year’s race, distance about 10km, mostly flat terrain, trail and road. But expect very muddy routes on the Trail loop if it rained beforehand, so prepared to get dirty and wear shoes and running attire you don’t mind getting muddy in.

Hi snow, you just need them to fill up the registration form, or if you do not have one, a photocopy will do, then have them all sign on it with date.

If your participant is younger than 21 years of age, please have a parent/guardian to fill and sign the indemnity part, then just go to any of the branches to register for your tag. You can submit and collect on their behalf as well.

Be sure to collect your receipt on payment, you will need it to collect your goodie bag, which will be given on a separate date.

Running slot are like 8000 for this year, as long you register before the closing date, it shouldn’t be a problem as the event seldom go over the limit.

Those who want to give VGO a second chance this year, despite the quality of the race getting worse and worse each year (and the prices getting higher and higher), heres a reminder of the email sent by them about last year’s race:

Dear Participants,

Thank you for attending the Mizuno Wave Run 2007. We are pleased to announce that you have helped raised $50,000 for both The Society for the Aged Sick Home and Bedok Reservoir Dragon Boat House Building Fund. This could not have been done without your participation.

We would also like to take this opportunity to apologise for the confusion and unpleasant experience during the run. We acknowledge that there were several concerns during the run and kindly allow us to explain:

It was unfortunate that there were two events running concurrently at the Bedok Reservoir Park. Apart from the Mizuno Wave Run, the Aljunied GRC also planned a Walk-a-Jog for its elderly residents. We were unaware that the latter event was situated very closely to ours and when we found out, it was beyond our control to shift ours to another area. It was also because due to the lack of space at the reservoir, both events were located very closely to each other and thus resulting in overlapping of events.

In addition, as both events were within close proximity, the GRC has requested from VGO Corporation Limited to use the stage for their prize-giving ceremony. Out of goodwill, we obliged. The timing of the GRC’s prize-giving ceremony was intended to be different from ours. But in reality, this did not happened and resulted in even further confusion during the event.

Lastly, as the location was overcrowded by people, the road marshals could not be identified amongst the crowd and thus not able to guide the runners properly to the finishing line.

With regards to the collection of goodie bags, due to the lack of manpower and insufficient planning for the sizes, we were not able to issue the bags as quickly as we hope to. Plus, there were a sizeable number of runners who requested to exchange size on the spot and resulted in a longer queue time.

Please accept our apologies and we sincerely hope that this will not mar your enthusiasm to participate in the next Mizuno Wave Run. We are constantly looking into ways to improve the Run and if you have any ideas on how we can improve, please do not hesitate to write in to us at customerservice@vgocorp.com.

Once again, we thank you for your participation and sorry for the inconvenience caused. We hope to see you back again next year.

Yours faithfully,
VGO Corporation Limited

where is the collection point? thanks

I believe after the outcry of the Mt Faber run collection point previously at Changi, we should expect a similar centralised collection point for the goodie bag few days before the run. Details are not confirmed as of yet, but you can expect it to be a the youth park too 1week before race date.

Hey there! Just curious, has the collection point been confirmed yet as of now?

Thanks in advance…

Yes, the collection point has not been confirmed as of yet. I will post information here the moment I get the official word from VGO, as said the only possibilities to expect so far are collection from VGO office (Changi) or 1 week before race date at the Youth park near cineleisure.

how come the prices for the shoe bag and event jersey is different for the wave run and the mt faber run?

User's MyBlogLog.com Picture Shaun Says:
(Posted 10th Jul, 2008 at 3:52 pm)

Hi MC, you get different jerseys and bags as they are still 2 different event despite being similarly organised by VGO themselves. They are quite notorious for allocating old stocks to give away for events, so its very subjective. The low down is that you will still get a bag and a shirt/jersey. I usually do not believe the retails prices as they are usually marked up to give perceived value.

You can’t ask for much as these are stated on the terms and conditions from the organisers being able to substitute free goodies of similar value.

when will the collection point be confirmed? the event is already upcoming, onlt about 2 weeks more…

Mmmm yes, this is weird, no reply from them yet…

It’s those who recalled the traumatic experiences last year, everything was collected on the even day itself, which resulted in snaking long queues all round the area.

Hey Shaun
Is this race happening? If so is there a website to view?

Nope, there is no official website, the only official area is world of sports website, which will direct you to a web version of the registration poster.
