*grumbles* Didn’t know sewing my CPL rank sewing on my uniform could be such a pain, so many sets to do…. Anyway, the new vocational postings are out and this time the posting’s gonna be permanent- one which will last for my 2 remaining years of national service till I ORD *Yeaaa.. freedom, end of army life*. I would be tied down with the armor unit- notoriously & largely rumored around this unit, their training are actually quite *eek* demanding…. *ponders for awhile* So, what can a man do but gear up and be prepared for some tough training… ahead!Damn its inevitable! Well at least I won’t need to put up with long travelling times and dumb ferry trips to pulau tekong anymore, as my camp is situated mainland.
Till then, it would be one week till you will hear from me, whats next? first impressions at the camp? woot!
Food for thought: *ouch* hope the scald on my hand heals soon… would be more careful when making nissin cupnoddles again… *duh, careless me!* |

Some shots and dots of the upcoming successor of windows xp, the Windows Longhorn “Aero” design.
When the Windows XP “Luna” user interface was revealed in February 2001, the Windows User Experience team took great pleasure when they verified that I had never seen a leaked copy of the UI before the official unveiling. I decided, at that moment, that the next Windows version would be different. Here, for the first time, is a gallery of UI prototypes that I believe accurately portrays the “Aero” user interface in Longhorn. They are presented in reverse chronological order, so that the olders pictures are at the bottom. Naturally, things could change and, if anything, I expect the UI to be more impressive in person than what we see here. But at the very least, the task-oriented nature of Longhorn comes through nicely in these shots.

*wakes up after 14 hours of hiberation* And so… the 32km graduation route march is over, so is the passing out parade and the receiving of my CPL rank, all yesterday… It was really a tough day on thursday night, the whole school literally marched 32km from thursday night all into friday’s late morning, where we had breakfast thereafter, then the passing out parade. You can guess how tried we can get, not to mention foot blisters and cramped legs. Many fell out, few fainted, yet many struggled, many pulled through. I was lucky to go through everything, thick and thin and came back, well… in one piece! It was an enjoyable march and it marks another transition of my national service journey, where I would be posted to a permanent unit, armor… Mmmm

Mmmm, its sunday today, a good time to stay at home to rest, relax and watch some VCDs on the computer. Yesterday, saturday was very much of a busy day for me: Its time again where my mum’s old friends from UK, London fly over with their families for a visit, and its pretty much an annual dinner thingy. We had dinner this year at Tony Romas, Suntec. Famous for their bbq ribs, its one feast you will always drool for. (LoL!) I ordered the 1&1/4 pounder chicken with the sweat ribs variation topped with 2 included side orders of coleslaw and french fries. Everyone had a great time and chat during dinner, the get-together and catchin’ up on time and events & I am already looking forward to next year’s dinner!
They would be staying for a few weeks, doing all the necessary sightseeing and shopping, very affordable stuff in Singapore they say.. yea *grins* Would be going out with them during my bookout next week, the week where I would pass out as CPL from Sispec. So whats on big next week at cap for me? Based on the timetable for next week, I would be learning to use the SAR21 rifle, neato! with that aside, the all grueling 32km route march will be on before graduation day (22th aug for the 28TH BSLC). Oh well more passing out rehearsals here I go- after that, up and done with BSLC man!)
Freedom.. Peace…

A good way to end the 2nd last week in Sispec- take a non stop 12km run, said OC to the company. And yea there we went like brainless fools, like him running madly. So why the sour grape? It was definitely of achievable distance, but the heck? we are only expected to run only 7km as planned, what the extra mileage for? everybody’s stinkingly low on morale and there he is giving out war cries like a level 5 Orc War Taren. *duh* I wanna be compensated!
*throws abit of tantrum* Oh yea, the run was conducted yesterday, Infantry day an annual event where all the infantry units in SG gather at tekong for competitive runs where teams send in their best runners to win the 22km Tekong challenge. For me and my coy, we are just casual runners in the “healthy lifestyle run (++ free bonus 6km) ” everything ended in the late morning where we booked out around noon.
Jus as shagged and sleepy after the run. The rest of the section managed to crawl to beach road to get our chevrons sewed on and we felt cheated having to pay for $4 each set. Had lunch in the vicinity too, OTW. Fingers are itchy after being shoppping deprived for weeks, zipped to Simlim in my “ugly” book out artire & purchased a Linksys PC card ($67, usual $79) and C&C Renegade ($39.90, usual $49.90-$59.90)- all at great bargains *feels momentarily proud*
After reaching and dumping myself in the comfort of home, started building the server section of my home network, this one is a resurrected AMD Atlon 333Mhz from my old notebook, I would be prying it out and building a new ventilated desktop casing for it. The reason why laptops don’t make good 24/7 computers is that they have very very lousy cooling systems, so therefore the redesigned fanned case. oh well, the next thing on my to-do list is to actually find time to get it done…
Mmmmm, and something off-topic but otherwise, interesting, check out this niffy PC mag article Forcing Windows to Crash on forcing your OS to crash, for a good cause- to test the recoverability of your system.

As a usual saturday night on national day, its chill out time as usual, had dinner at home. Did some window shopping around orchard later in the evening, Siemens moblie is having a roadshow of their latest M55 tri-band phone, it really cool, feature wise, it suxs big time, they really have cute salesgirls there, had some nice time chatting with them bout the upcoming phone I had been drooling for *grins*, the Siemens smartphone (type SX1). Popped down for some clubbing down at Club Imperium (previously known as sparks). They are having a house, trance dance cum staurday night fever BeeGees special, not bad I say, totally grovey!. Caught a late night cab for supper at a nearby hawker center before heading home.
Random thoughts - appreciate what you have around you, cos when things start getting messy, it hits hard.

Last week seems to be a very short week, very much shorter than usual. Whoosh its the weekend again and here I am typing this blog again. As I can remember with this clogged head and aching limbs of mine, heres what I have to share at camp.
And yea, so there was the outfield defense exercise for my company last week, namely manual digging, shoveling and lots of digging all day, all day… all into the night with my buddies, dig dig dig, so bad that even our enigneer gloves all start wearing out with holes, with aches and fatigue all over. Yes, it was really long, not to mention the complete lack of sleep the whole last 50 hours and the nightmare of carrying a 20kg++ heavy field pack cum signal set back to camp with the attack squad go for tens of kilometers, (being luckily appointed as general purpose machine gun commander.. *duh*) its one load that even your hands will start going numb after hours of “choinging” (rushing).
And so when the excercise ended it was company happy hour at club Chevrons @ jurong east. It was a miracle that everybody can set set their eyes open after 2 straight days of deprived sleep, talking about the zombies of resident evil… Had a dinner buffet, clubbed alittle club’s disco pub, the free flow of beer was delightful, though I still prefered the much conservative fruit punch. Sat around for a few round of pool and slacked for a few round of Daytona, Time crisis II, Tokyo wars and DDR at the local game arcade before heading home for a much needed rest. And just when the week could end happily, the stupid dial-a-coke drink vending machine refused to work for me… so much for that, there goes my phone bill… |
