Delightful Premium “ordinary” burgers

Ordinary burger’s burger menu selections are quite extensive, you have a choice of major big four, namely beef, chicken, fish and vegetarian burgers. Their Classic Beef burger, as vanilla as any burger can get is a good start at $6.40 at pop.

If you are really hungry, their Double Beef burger at $10.20 is the one to go for. It is a double patty cheeseburger packing a generous dousing of melted cheese packed with tomatoes and fresh lettuce.

The beef patty is juicy without being overly drippy. There is a generous serving of burger dressing, where the paper sleeve your burger comes in handy. Also, if things become bit too drippy for your burger, a trick is to eat your burger upside down to distribute the sauces more evenly to the top bun.

Got Buttermilk Chicken?

Another recommendation is their Buttermilk chicken. It is the one to go for in place of its alternative, the Spicy chicken. Both at priced at $5.30 per pop. However, a gripe is the small chicken portions. I found the chicken patties tad bit too thin with the edges tad too hard and crispy for my liking. Maybe because I am tad spoiled by the larger chicken chunks we see in KFC zinger meals.

Of course, this being a halal-friendly food establishment, you won’t be expecting any pork based burgers or bacon here, which is fine.

Ebi prawn burger

Topping up the recommendations is their Ebi prawn burger. It is one of their smaller selections around, priced at $7.40. These burgers are not easy to make and are a known delicacy in Japan. Here, you get chunks of whole Ebi (Prawns) stuffed into a prawn paste patty. It offers an interesting feel as you can randomly hit a prawn chunk with every bite. The implementation of the Ebi burger here at Ordinary burgers is one of the few good implementations of it.

Lastly, Topping up the seafood selections is their Fish fillet burger. Vegetarian options includes a Mushroom Portobello burger ($7.50) as well as the Impossible Patty burger. You do pay a premium for fake meat burgers costing $12.90, the priest menu selection of the pop.

Ordinary burgers Freshly made

Moreover, after ordering, you can see your burgers made right at the glass counter by the tills, where staff will buzz you via a remote buzzer when done. Or on a quiet day like on my visit, the staff kitchen staff were around to pop by your table to serve you your burgers. Your burgers come wrapped in a paper wrapped on a small wooden tray.

Additionally, their sides of onion rings are freshly fried and well made, with real chunky onions. Their fries are of the standard straight-cut fries, so no rocket science here. Interestingly, they do not seem to have the sweet potato fries which I came to know of previously.

Furthermore, for $3.80 extra, you can turn any burger into a meal with additional fries (regular fires or onion rings) with a canned soft drink or water of choice. Each side sets you back $3.10 while drinks a good $2 each. Hence, you get more value topping up a meal at $3.80 for a $1.20 discount for both a side of fries and drink.

All in all, Ordinary burgers at City Square is quite a good welcome to the ever crowded burger scene in Singapore. This is despite the outlet being noticeably smaller to the competition. But packs quite a selection rivaling incumbents such as Wolf Burgers and priced more affordably than Fat Burgers, Fat Papas and even Shake Shack. Definitely one to try when you are in Farrer Park.
